Parent and Carer's Voice
In order to continually monitor and improve quality as a nursery and ensure positive partnerships with parents and carers, we are looking to initiate a Parent and Carer’s Voice group. This concept would be similar to school P.T.A groups, getting together on a regular basis to discuss various aspects of nursery life such as fundraising activities, social events, new resources and to help implement changes.
Lollipops Parent & Carer’s Voice will be a friendly, relaxed group of parents, carers, staff and nursery friends, who meet up on regular occasions. The aim is to establish links between Lollipops and families, in order to help ensure a strong partnership throughout your child’s time at Lollipops Nursery.
This would be a very informal commitment with meetings potentially taking place on quarterly basis. Anybody can join and contribute at any time, even if you are unable to attend meetings in person any ideas can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or discussed at nursery.
If you feel this is something you might be interested in becoming part of please let us know in person, by email or by simply coming along to our first meeting on Monday 22nd February 2016 at 6pm at nursery. We will use this initial get together to get to know each other and discuss suitable meeting dates/times and a possible agenda for the term. We look forward to hearing from you and/or seeing you there!
August has been jam packed with outings within the community! Our Parrot and Preschool children all enjoyed a trip to Broad Street Dental Surgery for their open day. The children had chance to sit in the dentists chair, look at the equipment and listen to stories about dental hygiene. The children all had a goody bag and a sticker from the dentist to bring back to nursery. We will be extending this by having a teeth week when we discuss the importance of daily tooth brushing and our preschool children have shown in interest in doctors following this trip, leading to a new role play area.
We had a visit from Zoo Lab who came in to nursery to provide a "Wriggly Roadshow" for our Penguin and Butterfly children. This included snakes, Spiders, Rats and Centipedes alongside many more! Lots of the children were very brave touching various animals!
We have had several visits to the sand pit in High Town allowing the children to experience vast quantities of sand for open ended play. The penguins have shown an interest in posting objects leading to a trip to the post office to post letter back to nursery.
Our Preschool children enjoyed a trip to Play Planet to celebrate going to big school which they all loved!
Our new Sensory Room has proved a huge hit with our little ones with daily activities tailored to individual children's needs.
We cant quite believe how quickly the summer holidays have flown by! We have waved goodbye to all of our school leavers now and wish them lots of luck on their exciting new adventure at school!

July has seen the "end of an era" for 68 of our Preschool children who have left us to go off on their new adventure to school. We all had a lovely day at Dick Whittington Farm Park for our leavers trip and had an emotional Saturday at our Graduation BBQ with surprise visits from Superman, Elsa and Anna! We had graduation presentations and a yummy BBQ alongside Heggies Pig Roast This was a lovely opportunity to say goodbye to our little ones, to celebrate their achievements and thank parents and carers for choosing Lollipops for their precious children.
We are delighted to announce that we are having a brand new sensory room installed at Lollipops! Work will start week commencing 6 July 2015 and the project should be completed within three days.
We have chosen a company called "Sensory Technology" who have designed the room to our specifications and will supply and install the equipment using experienced, D.B.S checked engineers.
The room will boast padded walls and flooring to provide a soft and comfortable environment for the children. The equipment chosen includes an interactive Borealis tube which is a fantastic new product that uses LED lights to create some amazing bright dancing light sequences within a tube. This will be surrounded by Acrylic Mirrors to reflect the light effect. We are also having a fibre optic harness, a tactile light source for the children to interact with. A Solar LED Projector will be installed with changeable effects wheels to create a range of environments. A Mirror Ball with LED Pinspot will be included projected different colours onto the ceiling and walls. Also included are LED colour changing mood lights to instantly change the colour of the room with a wireless softplay cube switch for children to control the colour with a roll of the cube! An I-Digital LED Infinity Panel will be fitted onto the wall which creates the illusion of having an endless tunnel of light. It also contains an in-built microphone to give children a different interactive feature - as they make a sound in front of it the lights will dance and change colour depending on the pitch and volume received. We have also got an Interactive UV Tactile Activity Panel being installed giving the children a selection of different textures and shapes to explore. When the UV lights are on, each of the items on the board will glow in vivid, fluorescent colours. It has a range of textures, colours and finger mazes to give children different items to discover. We will finally be installing a UV Flood Light - this will allow the room to become multi functional with opportunities for children to create glow in the dark pictures and explore with UV facepaints etc.
We are so excited and will post some photographs in our Gallery of the changes within the room and of course photographs of the finished sensory room. We are so excited!!

We have had Laura, a qualified dance teacher, come to nursery to explore music and movement with the Preschool children.
On Thursday 10th July we had our annual leavers trip for all the little ones leaving us to go to school. This year we went to Cattle Country Adventure Park in Gloucester. The children were very excited on the bus journey there, singing "Frozen" songs and "the Wheels on the Bus." When we arrived we split into small groups to explore everything the park had to offer, from trampolines to soft play, to an outdoor splash pool. The children loved it all! We all pretended we were knights hiding in the castle and enjoyed visiting the animals at the back of the park. We had a picnic lunch, visited the gift shop and all enjoyed an ice cream in the sunshine. It was a very tiring but lovely day with lots of memories made. The bus was considerably quieter on the way home with lots of little ones having a little sleep after their busy day!

The Parrot Room recently extended a child's interest by taking a group of children to the Mini Golf Course in Hereford to play golf which they loved!
The garden is complete and looking amazing! The children love it and don't seem to tire of sliding down the hill! It looks beautiful and the children are now thinking of different ways to put "Lollipops" stamp on it, by creating their own bunting to decorate it etc.
We have had several visits in Preschool from teachers from schools across Herefordshire, ensuring a smooth transition for our school leavers. The children have been preparing for school by accessing our "School" role play area, allowing them to dress up in various school uniforms, take the register and take part in school based activities.

We have received lots of questionnaires back, with so many really lovely comments! Its so nice to be able to feed back to all of our hardworking staff, the praise and thanks you have included, which further boosts the self esteem of our highly dedicated and enthusiastic staff team, who really do thrive looking after your little ones. Its so rewarding to hear how well you feel we are doing as after all, we are here to provide a high quality, personal and flexible childcare service for you and your families.
We had some comments regarding daily feedback in our Preschool room which has already been improved by reintroducing daily diaries for each child, providing a means of communication that can be kept open, between the nursery setting and home environment. The preschool children will also be given a book bag to keep it in, also promoting the opportunity for children to take books home.
We have 15 staff members who will be going on Sign-a-long training in March. This will take place on a Saturday and each staff member will receive an accredited certificate. The use of Sign-a-long will then be cascaded throughout the nursery, providing support for children with speech and language difficulties or other additional needs.
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a lovely relaxing Christmas break and are ready for a busy 2014!
January has meant a move up within the play rooms at Lollipops. The children have taken to their new rooms with ease and have settled alongside their new Key Person, helping to familiarise them with the new routines. We have had visits from Pedro and Gemma and have had a weekly session at widemarsh Children's Centre, wrapping up warm to visit the soft play room.
The children have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. We have made lanterns, tried fortune cookies, danced with our junk model dragon and tried lots of tasty Chinese foods. The younger children have explored new tastes with messy play using cooked rice and noodles. We looked at other cultures and discussed how we are all different and that's what makes us special.
The Preschool children have shown a big interest in coffee throughout January. This led to a Lollipops Coffee shop being set up where the children had real coffee beans and teabags to mix, pour and stir in Costa takeaway cups. They served cupcakes to friends and created menus, took orders and cleared tables in the Lollipops Coffee shop. We extended this interest by taking the children to Costa in Hereford to experience a real Coffee shop!
Our annual questionnaire has been handed out to which we have asked to be returned by Friday 21st Feb. We will use your comments to asses what we do well and any suggestions for improvement to make Lollipops even better!
On Friday 14th February we will be having a "Red Day" to celebrate Valentines Day, children are welcome to wear something red to nursery and we will be having lots of red themed activities and messy play.

You will be pleased to hear that we raised £115 for children in need this year. The children (and staff!) all had great fun dressing up in their pyjamas and enjoyed trying some yummy cakes during the Halloween cake sale.
We are currently looking at the possibility of re landscaping our outdoor space. We will be consulting with the children in each classroom as to what they enjoy and any ideas or activities they might like to experience whilst outside. We also value your opinions as parents and carers. If you have any ideas or are aware of any interests your child has whilst outside at home, please do let us know. Our garden is for the children, we want it to be as inviting, inspirational and meaningful as possible to ensure children at Lollipops get the most out of their outdoor play experiences. Any ideas, comments or pictures are warmly welcome - please pass these on to your child's Key Person.
Can we take this opportunity to remind all parents to ensure their children come to nursery fully prepared for outdoor play. The weather has been very chilly recently but we strongly feel that outside play is important each and every day. Even the change in weather provides learning experiences for children, gaining valuable understanding of the world. Could parents provide warm clothes, hats, coats and wellies which you are, of course, more than welcome to keep at nursery.
